Vinarstvo Rodica – Istra
The Rodica family-run organic wine farm is located in the heart of Slovenian Istria, in the village of Truške near Marezige, above Koper. The winery is situated on top of a hill overlooking the sea of the Gulf of Trieste and the unspoilt nature of the Dragonja River. On 15 hectares, we cultivate 60 thousand vines, planted mainly with indigenous varieties of refosco, malvasia and yellow muscat, as well as others, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah and grey pinot. The grapes are produced in accordance with the rules of organic farming, based on farming in harmony with nature. With great respect for nature and tradition, and with love and passion, we produce wines that inspire us.They have truly won us over, first with their tidiness and natural beauty, and then with their friendliness and homeliness. They have the ideal space to set up a civil ceremony, the possibility to gather outside and dine inside in a pleasant Istrian ambience. We believe that quality is born in the vineyard. The land on which we have planted our vineyards has been overgrown for the last 50 years. No artificial fertilisers or sprays have ever been used on them. Vines planted in poor soil and shallow soils grow modestly. In sunny and airy positions, vine diseases can be controlled without the use of synthetic protectants. In this way, and with greater respect for and harmony with nature, we can produce healthy and ripe grapes and healthy and powerful wines that reflect the character of our wine-growing region.
